The third BAROCKTAGE will take place November 13th through 22nd. This year’s festival will open with the premiere of MITRIDATE, RE DI PONTO, an early work by Mozart from 1770, in a production by Satoshi Miyagi, who bridges the gap between western theater tradition and the aesthetics of Japanese kabuki theater. Marc Minkowski takes over the musical direction. The ensemble includes Pene Pati, who is making his house and role debut in the title role, as well as Julie Fuchs (Aspasia, house and role debut), Elsa Dreisig (Sifare, role debut), Jakub Józef Orliński (Farnace, role debut) and Anna Prohaska (Ismene, role debut). Les Musiciens du Louvre are playing. In addition to the premiere, the focus of the BAROCKTAGE 2020 is on the Orpheus myth with Gluck’s ORFEO ED EURIDICE, Monteverdi’s L’ORFEO and a concert performance of an ORFEO opera by Carl Heinrich Graun, the Berlin court conductor of Frederick the Great. As part of LINDEN 21, “NEVER LOOK BACK – AN ORPHEUS FESTIVAL” will be a cooperation with students from Berlin art schools. The festival program is complemented by numerous concerts.
The month of November will also include the 2nd subscription concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin under the direction of Daniel Barenboim with works for choir, soloists, and piano by Franz Schubert on the program (November 2nd and 3rd), as well as performances of the FAMILY MAGIC FLUTE in a shortened version of the production by August Everding, and the Resumption of Humperdinck’s HÄNSEL UND GRETEL in a version adapted to the COVID-19 conditions. The Lichtenberg Children’s Opera House is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the premiere of the anniversary production FATTO MATTO AMADÉ on November 6th in the Theater an der Parkaue.
