Staatskapelle Berlin under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim, with soloist András Schiff, livestreams on rbbKultur November 15th and on rbb television November 16th
On Sunday, November 15th, thanks to the support of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), a symphony concert by the Staatskapelle Berlin will take place in the hall of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim and with András Schiff as a soloist. The concert will be streamed live on the websites of rbbKultur, Staatskapelle Berlin, and Staatsoper Unter den Linden as a cooperation with rbb at 9 a.m. EST and broadcast on the radio from 2:04 p.m. EST. The concert will also be broadcast on rbb television on November 16 at 5:45 p.m. EST. Ludwig van Beethoven’s PIANO CONCERTO No. 4 in G Major (Op. 58) is on the program with András Schiff as pianist, as well as Beethoven’s SYMPHONY NO. 3 in Eb Major (Op. 55). In order to draw attention in particular to the difficult situation of freelance colleagues, the livestream is taking place as a benefit concert, requesting viewers to donate to the emergency aid fund of the German Orchestra Foundation in favor of freelance musicians.
General Music Director Daniel Barenboim says, “For music and culture, there has probably been little worse than this pandemic. We are experiencing a very difficult time and – what is perhaps even worse – we cannot foresee what the time will be like, how people will be shaped when it is finally over. A return to normal is very difficult to imagine, because the musical and cultural landscape will change permanently as a result of the pandemic. The survival of the rich German (and European!) cultural landscape is in great danger. What worries me most is how little importance music and culture have in today’s social discourse. Of course, health comes first, then economy. But culture also contributes to the economy, and we must not forget that people also have a spirit. “
“We are very grateful to the rbb and its general manager Patricia Schlesinger for this renewed cooperation! In March for the first lockdown, together with the rbb and the “Carmen” live stream from the empty Staatsoper, we reached an online audience of over 160,000 viewers from all over the world. We really appreciate that the rbb is such an uncomplicated and reliable partner in these difficult times, and that it helps us to keep a cultural platform. We need these audible and visible signs even more now! ” says Artistic Director Matthias Schulz.
rbb director Patricia Schlesinger: “When the places for culture have to close, we open new rooms. The rbb does it; It is the motto with which we bring cultural offers from the closed stages and cultural sites of the region to the people in Berlin and Brandenburg. We are very happy that we can do this again live from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. With our cultural push in the program, we want to set an example by the end of November: for the culture, for the artists of our region, who accompany us with their actions in this difficult time again. You do it, we show it – and everyone can participate. “
