On October 4th, 9th, and 11th there will be three gala evenings in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under the title VIVA VERDI! The Staatskapelle Berlin will play under the musical direction of Simone Young, with soloists Liudmyla Monastyrska, Violeta Urmana, Marcelo Álvarez, Alexey Markov, Adrian Sâmpetrean, Sergey Skorokhodov, Vladislav Sulimsky, Alexander Tsymbalyuk, and Kwangchul Youn. The program includes the overture to LA FORZA DEL DESTINO as well as arias, duets, and ensembles from MACBETH, DON CARLO, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, and IL TROVATORE.
For many years, Simone Young has been one of the most notable contemporary conductors. She studied in her hometown Sydney, got a scholarship to the Cologne Opera where she soon appeared as Kapellmeister, and was then brought to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin by Daniel Barenboim.
At the same time, her international career was developing, which within a few years took her to all the major opera houses and most important orchestras in the world, where she is still a regular guest. These include, among others, the Vienna State Opera, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Bavarian State Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, the Dresden Semperoper, the Zurich Opera House, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Simone Young has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne since their 2017 – 2018 season. From 2001 to 2003, she was Artistic Director of the Australian Opera and ran the opera houses in Sydney and Melbourne. From 1998 to 2002, she was chief conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and from 2007 to 2012, principal guest conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon. From August 2005 until the end of the 2014 – 2015 season, Simone Young was artistic director of the Hamburg State Opera and general music director of the Hamburg Philharmonic. Simone Young has made numerous CD and DVD recordings.
